COLUMBUS, GA. – The 14th-ranked Columbus State women's tennis team moved to the top of the Peach Belt Conference standings on Sunday with a 5-2 win over No. 15 Flagler College at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
Columbus State is now 12-4 overall with a perfect 4-0 record in PBC play, while Flagler falls to 10-8 on the year with a 3-1 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars and Saints split decisions at Nos. 2 and 3 in doubles play, with the duo of grad student Annie Adams and junior Maria Markosov winning 6-2 on court three.
- In the No. 1 doubles match, senior Laura Pesickova and freshman Isabell Ek won 6-3 to clinch the first point of the contest.
- Doubles play saw Flagler gain points at Nos. 2 and 4, but CSU won four match-ups to seal the conference victory.
- Senior (17) Nikoline Gullacksen was a 6-0, 6-3 winner on court one over 16th-ranked singles player in the country, while freshman Claudia De Lucas won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 3 contest for her sixth straight singles triumph.
- Pesickova was a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 5, and Ek finished off the match with a 2-6, 7-6, 7-5 marathon win in the sixth flight.
