HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as junior Jax Yoxtheimer hit a lead-off solo home run to right center to put the home team ahead 1-0.
  • In the fourth inning, CSU plated four runs on three hits and an Augusta fielding error to build a 5-0 lead. Seniors Jackson Chizek and Bryce Knox each had RBI singles in the inning.
  • Columbus State extended its advantage to 10-0 with a five-run fourth inning, drawing five walks in the inning with just one hit and another Augusta fielding error.
  • Chizek and Knox each drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring a run home, while fellow senior Michael Cruz scored two more with an RBI single through the left side in the frame.
  • Cruz added two more RBI to his total with a run-scoring single in the fifth, and Columbus State scored its final run on an Augusta wild pitch in the sixth.
  • Columbus State ace Sawyer Wilson (5-3) held the Jaguars scoreless until a solo home run in the top of the seventh broke up the shutout.
