COLUMBUS – A late-game comeback attempt fell short for the Columbus State baseball team in a 5-4 loss to Augusta University on Sunday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference action at Burger King Stadium.
The Cougars took time to honor their 11-member senior class as a part of the program's annual Senior Day celebration.
Columbus State is now 27-16 overall with an 18-9 record in the PBC, while Augusta moves to 18-26 on the year with a 12-15 conference mark.

- In the second inning, Augusta got a two-run home run from Matty Go and added another run in the third to build a 4-1 lead.
- The Jaguars' fifth and final run came in the top of the sixth before Columbus State plated two in the bottom half of the inning on back-to-back singles from sophomore Luke Miller and junior Jacob Smith.
- Junior Cole Eison brought the Cougars within a run of tying the game, 5-4, with a two-run home run on the first pitch he saw to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning.
- Columbus State had runners in scoring position in both the eighth and ninth innings of play, including runners on the corners with two out in the last frame, but could not get the tying run across the plate to extend the game.
