CSU Baseball Falls to Georgia Southwestern in Regular Season Finale

AMERICUS, GA. – The Columbus State baseball team concluded the 2026 regular season with a 9-3 loss at the hands of Georgia Southwestern State University in its Peach Belt Conference finale from Hurricane Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Columbus State finishes the regular season 27-20 overall with an 18-12 record in the PBC, while Georgia Southwestern moves to 27-23 on the year with an identical 18-12 conference mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Columbus State loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the first and scored the game's first run on a GSW wild pitch. Junior Kole McGlumphy and senior Michael Cruz then drew back-to-back walks, bringing another run across the plate for a 2-0 lead.
  • Georgia Southwestern responded with three runs of their own in the second inning before the Cougars evened the score at 3-all in the fourth with a sac fly from junior Corey Berry.
  • The Hurricanes retook the lead with a solo home run in the fifth and added five more runs in the seventh, including a two-run home run, to build a 9-3 advantage.
  • CSU was able to get just two base runners on across the final two innings as any chance of a comeback was extinguished.
NOTES
  • For the second straight game, senior Cayden Evans was the only Cougar to have a multi-hit day, finishing 2-for-4 in the finale.
  • Berry and Cruz had one RBI apiece, while junior Jacob Smith was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run scored.
  • Senior Christian Harmon was the Cougars' most effective arm, pitching 1.1 innings of no-hit relief and allowing just one base runner in his 14th appearance of the year.
  • The Cougars entered the weekend third overall in the PBC standings, but three losses to close out the regular season schedule dropped CSU to the sixth overall seed in next weekend's conference tournament.
UP NEXT
Columbus State now turns its focus to the postseason as the Cougars will travel to Greenwood, S.C., to take on third-seeded USC Aiken in the opening round of the 2026 Peach Belt Conference Baseball Championship. Game dates and times will be announced on Sunday night when the tournament bracket is released.
