YOUNG HARRIS, GA. – The 5th-ranked Columbus State men's tennis team rebounded from a battle-tested weekend to collect a 4-0 win over in-state rival Young Harris College on Thursday afternoon at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.
Columbus State is now 11-2 overall, while the Mountain Lions fall to 6-9 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars took control with two wins in doubles play, starting with a 6-1 win at No. 2 by the tandem of senior Yike Liu and junior Samer Al Tori. Seniors Daniel Hammond and Benedek Szombathelyi teamed together for a 6-2 win at No. 3 to build an early one-point lead.
- Szombathelyi turned in a dominant performance in singles play, tallying a 6-1, 6-0 win in the third flight.
- Hammond won 6-1, 6-2 on court five, while fellow senior Elias Peter was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at No. 6 to complete the shutout for Columbus State.
