AUGUSTA, GA. – The 5th-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team collected its ninth straight victory with a 5-2 triumph over No. 37 Augusta University on Friday afternoon from the Newman Tennis Center.
With the win, Columbus State improves to 9-0 overall to start the season, while the Jaguars fall to 6-9 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars led 1-0 after the conclusion of doubles play as the tandem of seniors Andrea Sandrone and Elias Peter won 6-3 at No. 1 followed by a 6-4 win at No. 3 by the duo of seniors Daniel Hammond and Benedek Szombathelyi.
- (25) Thomas Cardona was dominant in his win at No. 1 singles, tallying a 6-2, 6-3 victory, while (68) Sandrone was a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the No. 6 singles contest.
- Szombathelyi also won in straight sets with a 6-3, 7-5 decision in the fourth flight.
- Columbus State's fifth and final point came from the No. 3 court as junior Samer Al Tori went the distance in a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 victory.
