CSU Cheer Announces July 7th Tryouts for 2026-27 Season

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Columbus State University cheerleading program will host tryouts for the 2026-27 season on Tuesday, July 7th in the Lumpkin Center. 

Registration will begin at 9:15 AM, with formal instruction beginning at 10 AM. Tryouts are open to current CSU students and incoming freshmen. 

Participants are encouraged to pre-register online using this link. Registration day-of will also be permitted. All participants will be required to sign a waiver. If under the age of 18, a legal guardian will also need to sign the waiver. 

All participants should bring a CSU student ID or acceptance letter, a new physical within the last six months and sickle cell test results. 

The CSU cheerleading program owns a storied tradition with seven national championships. The Cougars perform at home basketball games, school and community events throughout the year and compete at NCA Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida, each April. 

CSU is currently in the process of hiring a new head cheerleading coach. Leah Botts, Deputy Athletic Director for External Relations, will serve as the point of contact in the interim.  

Female Minimum Requirements

Female participants will be evaluated on stunting, tumbling, jumps, cheers and dances, sharp and clean motions, the ability to quickly learn material, and performance and showmanship. 

Minimum requirements include: 

  • All-girl extended lib  

  • All-girl full down from extended stunt  

  • Coed flyers – toss to extension  

  • Running round-off back-handspring  

  • Standing back-handspring  

  • Toe-touch  

  • All top girls need to be able to stunt coed and all-girl.  

Male Minimum Requirements

Male participants will be evaluated on stunting, tumbling, cheers and dances, sharp and clean motions, the ability to quickly learn material, and performance and showmanship. 

Minimum requirements include: 

  • Toss hands  

  • Willingness to learn tumbling.  

Team Requirements

Team members are required to: 

  • Attend all practices  

  • Attend all home basketball games  

  • Attend various athletic, campus and community events  

  • Proudly wear the CSU logo  

  • Participate in team fundraising initiatives  

  • Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or better throughout the academic year  

  • Complete 12 credit hours per semester.
