Box Score Misenheimer, N.C. - The Columbus State women's soccer team scored a season high six goals in their dominating win over Pfeiffer, 6-0 Sunday afternoon at N.E. Lefko Field. Six different Lady Cougars scored including Emily Husted and Melinda Bush who added an assist apiece. A total of 38 players played in the contest, as each team used 19 players.
CSU was able to get another early goal, this one coming at the 15:03 mark. Jordan McKenzie lined-up a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box and buried home the attempt to give the visitors the lead. Later in the half, Ashton Ziadie cleared a long pass to Husted who sent a cross over that found Bush. The senior calmly placed the ball in the lower left corner for a 2-0 Columbus State lead. CSU held an 11-1 shot advantage entering the break.
A quick start to the second half expanded the Lady Cougars lead to 4-0 as they scored two goals in two and a half minute window. Stephanie Parrish, the team leader in assists, notched her first goal of the year in the 48th minute followed by a K.C. MacEachern goal at the 49:48 mark. MacEachern's goal was taken just outside the 18-yard box as she blasted it to the top shelf.
Columbus State had a flurry of shots late in the second half before Stephanie Lowery knocked in her third goal of the season with 18:26 remaining in the contest. The shot was setup by Kylie Donohue whose initial shot was saved by Pfeiffer goalie Amanda Wemple and the rebound went to Lowery for the score. Husted scored her second goal of the road trip in the final minute of play. Leslie Mathews and Bush combined with each other before Bush played the ball to Husted in the eight-yard box for the game's final tally.
Overall, Columbus State outshot Pfeiffer 21-3 including a 15-0 advantage in shots on goals. CSU held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. The Lady Cougars have outscored their opponents 14-0 on the year. The six goals scored Sunday was the most goals scored in a game by CSU since they also scored six goals against Montevallo last year on October 28. The Cougars posted two games a year ago where they found the back of the net six times.
Sophomore Mary Mancin improves to 4-0 on the year playing the first half while freshman Willi Babillis finished the contest between the pipes. Jamie Alcala evens her record at 2-2 playing the first 45 minutes for the Falcons. She faced seven shots stopping five. Wemple closed the match out for Pfeiffer in goal picking up four saves.
Columbus State ups its record to 4-0 picking up two wins at home and on the road. Pfeiffer drops to 2-2 including 0-1 at home. Their first three contests were on the road, two of which were at a neutral site. CSU returns to the pitch Friday, September 17 in its Peach Belt Conference home opener versus Lander. The contest is part of the Hughston Sports Clinic Shootout and is set to kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
