Rome - The fourth-ranked Columbus State Lady Cougars improved their record to a perfect 5-0 with a 5-1 victory versus Shorter University Tuesday night in a non-conference matchup at Ben Brady Field in Rome, Georgia.

With the win, the Lady Cougars have won 12 consecutive regular season matches dating back to last season.

CSU struck first just 2:02 into the match as Kansas Bayly kicked in a rebound off of a Stephanie Lowery free kick. The goal was the junior's second of the season.

The Lady Cougars received a little help from Shorter later in the half as the Lady Hawks scored an own goal at 39:47 to increase the CSU lead to 2-0.

Columbus State had the two-goal lead at half, outshooting Shorter 12-3.

The second half was much of the same as the Lady Cougars extended its lead to 3-0 on Kelsey Pelletier's goal off a free kick from 25 yards out in the 54th minute.

Less than two minutes later, Casey Davis received a pass from Blakely Heideman and scored her first goal of the season to make it 4-0.

Andi Larese capped off the scoring for CSU in the 73rd minute, scoring her first goal of the year on a free kick just a few yards outside the penalty box.

With 20 seconds remaining, Shorter broke the Lady Cougars' bid for a shutout on a goal from Aline Bez Tamiosso.

The five goals scored  in the contest matches a season high as they also notched five goals last Friday night versus Lincoln Memorial.

CSU attempted a season high 27 shots, including 18 on goal, also a season high.

Mary Mancin earned the win between the pipes for the Lady Cougars as she played the first 55:29 stopping the one shot she faced as she improved to 5-0 on the season.  Meosha Hatcher played the rest of the contest stopping two shots while allowing the lone goal of the contest.

Columbus State will play its fourth consecutive road match on Saturday, as the Lady Cougars open up Peach Belt Conference play against Armstrong Atlantic State University. Armstrong was unanimously voted the preseason PBC favorite by the coaches and are currently ranked 24th nationally.

Saturday's game will be the conference opener for both teams. The game will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Armstrong Soccer Field in Savannah, GA.
