Josh FullerCOLUMBUS – The eighth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team kicked off Peach Belt Conference play in style on Sunday defeating Francis Marion 8-1. The match took place at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center in Columbus.

CSU (3-1) wasted no time taking control of the match sweeping doubles play. At first doubles, the 11
th-ranked duo of
Camila Tobar and
Kirsa Utech defeated Samantha Koelliker and Marie Krueger 8-3.
Beatriz Leon and
Giorgia Vitale dropped just one game at second doubles winning 8-1 over Eva Lieben and Anna Wintrich. In the final doubles match,
Olivera Tadijin and
Rachael Williams took down Kristel Kalm and Mona Piller 8-4.

In singles play, the Lady Cougars dropped just one match to go on for the win. After taking Saturday off from singles play, 14
th-ranked Leon returned to her number one singles spot and didn't miss a beat winning 6-0, 6-3 against Koelliker. Tobar was also dominant at second singles winning 6-2, 6-2 against Krueger. At fourth singles, Tadijin defeated Sofia Henning 6-1, 6-2. Playing at fifth singles, 50
th-ranked Utech didn't have a problem with Wintrich taking the match 6-3, 6-0. At the final spot, Williams defeated Kalm 6-2, 6-4.
Francis Marion's (3-2) lone win of the day came at third singles where Lieben won 6-4, 6-3 against Pannu.

Columbus State will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 20 taking on Lander in Greenwood, S.C. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Â
