Josh FullerATLANTA – Playing against the second ranked team at the NCAA Division III level, the eighth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team fell 7-2 against Emory Wednesday. The matches took place at the WoodPEC Tennis Courts in Atlanta.

The loss snaps CSU's five-game winning streak, as the Lady Cougars are now 5-2 while Emory improves to 7-1 this season.

For the first time this season, Columbus State fell behind after doubles play as the Eagles won two of the three matches. CSU's lone win came at the second position as
Beatriz Leon and
Giorgia Vitale won their match 8-2. The 11
th-ranked duo of
Camila Tobar and
Kirsa Utech dropped their first match of the year at first doubles 8-1.
Olivera Tadijin and
Rachael Williams fell 8-3 at third doubles.

Emory capped off play winning five of the six singles matches with Columbus State's victory coming at fifth singles. In that match, Tadijin won 6-3, 6-4.

The Eagles won the other five remaining matches in straight sets. At the top spot, 14
th-ranked Leon had a 6-2, 6-3 setback while Tobar fell 6-4, 6-4 at second singles. In a tight match at third singles, 50
th-ranked Utech lost 6-3, 6-4.
Saravinder Pannu lost 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles while Williams battled at sixth singles before falling 7-5, 6-3.

After a day off, Columbus State will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 26 against 42
nd-ranked Dallas Baptist. The matches are set to begin at noon at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center.
