Josh FullerVALDOSTA, Ga. – Wrapping up a span of four matches in five days, the eighth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team fell 5-0 to No. 5 Lynn Sunday. The match took place at the Valdosta State Tennis Courts in Valdosta, Ga.
The Lady Cougars are now 7-3 on the year while Lynn ups its record to 5-1.
The Fighting Knights swept all thee doubles matches to get off to a fast start. Taking on the top-ranked doubles team in the nation, 11
th-ranked
Camila Tobar and
Kirsa Utech played well but fell 8-4 to Diana Bogolii and Rosalie Willig. At second doubles,
Beatriz Leon and
Giorgia Vitale dropped an 8-3 decision to Grace Mpassy and Carolina Cuevas. Martina Gledacheva and Alina Jane swept
Olivera Tadijin and
Rachael Williams at third doubles.
Needing just two wins to secure the victory, Lynn took third and fifth singles to clinch. At the third position, 50
th-ranked Utech was upset by Mpassy 6-1, 6-0 while Cuevas took down Sarvinnder Pannu 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles.
Columbus State was leading in the four remaining matches when play was called. Leon, Tobar, Tadijin and Williams were all up a set in their respective matches.
Columbus State will have a few well-deserved days off before taking on North Georgia on Saturday, March 5 at 2 p.m. The matches will be played in Dahlonega, Ga.Â
