No. 8 Lady Cougars Cruise Over Anderson

COLUMBUS – The eighth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team took down regionally ranked Anderson 8-1 Saturday afternoon. The matches took place at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center in Columbus.
 
The Lady Cougars improve to 11-3 after winning their fourth straight match. Anderson, who entered the match ranked 10th in the Southeast Region, is now 8-6.

Columbus State didn't have any problems in doubles taking all three matches, including a top-25 showdown. At the top spot, the 11th-ranked team of Camila Tobar and Kirsa Utech knocked off 22nd-ranked Rebecca Bruning and Ivey Welborn 8-2. It was the first win over a ranked duo this year for Tobar and Utech. Beatriz Leon and Giorgia Vitale were 8-1 winners at second doubles defeating Alexandra Ebner and Jennifer Holcombe. Playing at third doubles, Saravinder Pannu and Rachael Williams flew by Natalia San Jose and Abigail Gregory 8-1.
 
CSU continued its good play into singles action, dropping just one match. Playing at first singles for just the second time this year, Tobar easily won 6-1, 6-1 over Welborn. Tadijin also moved up in the rotation playing at third singles and didn't miss a beat. Tadijin defeated Ebner 6-3, 6-1. Vitale nearly played a perfect match at fourth singles, dropping just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Holcombe.
 
The final two Lady Cougars wins came at the fifth and sixth spots. At fifth singles, Pannu won her third straight match taking down Nikkola Wichenko 6-2, 6-0 while Williams was dominant at sixth singles winning 6-1, 6-1 against Gregory.
 
Anderson got its lone win of the day at second singles as Bruning upset 50th-ranked Utech 1-6, 6-0, 10-0.
 
Columbus State will return to the court on Wednesday, March 23 hosting Montevallo at the Blackmon Tennis Center.
