No. 8 Lady Cougars Take Down Young Harris 8-1

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Playing its second match in as many days, the eighth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team took down Young Harris 8-1 Sunday in Peach Belt Conference action. The matches took place at the Berry Tennis Complex in Young Harris, Ga.

With the win, the Lady Cougars upped their record to 9-3 and a perfect 6-0 in PBC action. Young Harris suffered its first loss of the year and is now 5-1 and 2-1 in league play.

CSU got off to a great start winning all three doubles matches. At the top spot, the 11th-ranked duo of Kirsa Utech and Camila Tobar dropped just one game in an 8-1 victory over Elin Rundcrantz and Maria Puerta. Beatriz Leon and Giorgia Vitale took down Laura Sanchez and Oriana Labaqui 8-4 at second doubles. Rachael Williams and Olivera Tadijin capped off the sweep with an 8-4 win at third doubles against Carolina Hernandez and Kadie Hudgins 8-4.

Columbus State won five of the six singles matches to go on for the victory. Tobar recorded the first win in singles action at the second spot taking down Labaqui 6-0, 6-2. Tadijin also notched a quick win at fourth singles breezing by Puerta 6-3, 6-1. At the sixth spot, Williams dropped just one game in both sets in a 6-1, 6-0 win against Diana DiMarco.

Playing at her usual top spot, 14th-ranked Leon needed an extra game in the first set, but dominated the second in a 7-6, 6-1 win against Rundcrantz. Saravinder Pannu continued her good play at fifth singles defeating Sanchez 6-4, 6-4.

YHC got its lone win of the day at third singles as Hernandez upset 50th-ranked Utech 6-4, 7-5.

Columbus State will be back in action on Wednesday, March 9 hosting 15th-ranked Valdosta State. The matches will begin at 2 p.m. at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center.
