COLUMBUS – The eighth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team made quick work of West Alabama on Sunday defeating the Tigers 5-0 in a non-conference match. All the action took place at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center.

The Lady Cougars upped their record to 15-5 after winning their third straight match. West Alabama falls to 14-6 on the year.

Columbus State swept doubles play to take an early 3-0 lead over UWA. At the top spot, the 10th-ranked duo of
Camila Tobar and
Kirsa Utech took down Amina Mukhametshina and Georgina Morral 8-3.
Beatriz Leon and
Giorgia Vitale continued playing well defeating Andrea Tomassone and Liliana Araucz 8-1 at second doubles.
Olivera Tadijin and
Saravinder Pannu capped off the sweep with an 8-4 win at the third spot over Evelyn Moreno and Sandra Florez.

In singles action, CSU got a default win at the sixth spot to go up 4-0 and clinched the victory after a 6-0, 6-1 win by Vitale at fifth singles against Florez. The remaining four matches were called.

Leon was still in the first set when play was suspended while Tobar and Utech were up a set against their opponents. Tadijin fell 6-4 to Morrall in the first set at third doubles, however, the Lady Cougar was up 3-0 in set two.

Columbus State will conclude the regular season next weekend with a pair of home matches. CSU will host 19th-ranked Georgia College first on Friday, April 15 at 2 p.m. at the Blackmon Tennis Center.
