COLUMBUS – The eighth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team recorded its fourth consecutive victory Saturday defeating 49
th-ranked Augusta 8-1 in Peach Belt Conference play. All the action took place at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center.
With the win, the Lady Cougars improve to 16-5 on the season and 10-1 in PBC play. Augusta now sits a 12-8 overall and 4-6 inside the conference.
Columbus State won two of the three doubles matches to take the early 2-1 advantage. At the top spot, the 10
th-ranked doubles pair of
Camila Tobar and
Kirsa Utech raced by Brooke Durden and Amelia Pinoargote 8-2.
Beatriz Leon and
Giorgia Vitale picked up another win at second doubles taking down Monica Gonzalez and Maria Pimentel 8-4. Augusta managed its lone win of the day at the third spot as Maria Nadal and Gisela Font edged
Olivera Tadijin and
Rachael Williams  9-7.
The Lady Cougars swept singles play to cap off the day. At first singles, 14
th-ranked Leon made quick work of Durden 6-3, 6-0. Continuing her good play, 36
th-ranked Tobar dropped just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 win against Gonzalez at second singles. Tadijin rolled at third singles taking down Pimentel 6-1, 6-2.
At fourth singles, Utech only lost one game against Font in her 6-0, 6-1 victory. Vitale played a perfect match against Nadal sweeping fifth singles 6-0, 6-0.
Saravinder Pannu recorded the final CSU victory at sixth singles with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Pinoargote.
Columbus State will conclude the regular season on Sunday with a match against 19
th-ranked Georgia College. All the action begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Blackmon Tennis Center.
