COLUMBUS - The eighth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team cruised to its sixth straight win defeating No. 34 North Georgia 8-1 Sunday in Peach Belt Conference action. The match took place at the Cooper Creek Tennis Center in Columbus.
The Lady Cougars (8-1, 5-0 PBC) won eight of the nine matches, dropping just a three-set match at fifth singles.
"I felt like we played efficient today," said CSU head coach
Evan Isaacs. "It was good to get another quality win on our scheudle."
In doubles play,
Beatriz Leon and
Beatriz Lopez won a well played 8-5 match at the top spot.
Camila Tobar and
Giorgia Vitale recorded an 8-4 victory at the second position while
Kirsa Utech and
Rachael Williams raced to an 8-2 win at third doubles.
CSU won all of its five singles matches in straight sets. Vitale posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory at first singles. Utech won a tight first set 7-5 at the second spot, but dominated the second set 6-2 to record the win. At third singles, 16th-ranked Lopez easily handled business winning 6-1, 6-0.Â
Picking up another win, 27th-ranked Tobar won fourth singles 6-4, 6-3 while
Saravinder Pannu took sixth singles 6-2, 6-4.
Olivera Tadijin was the only Lady Cougar to fall on Sunday losing a tight three-set match 3-6, 6-3, 12-10.Â
Columbus State will have nearly a week off before returning to the court on Saturday, March 18 against Clayton State. The match will begin at 1 p.m. at the Cooper Creek Tennis Center.
