COLUMBUS – Kicking off a five-match homestand, the eighth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team defeated Nebraska Kearney 8-1 Sunday afternoon. The match took place at Cooper Creek Tennis Center.

"We are playing very well right now," said head coach
Evan Isaacs. "We need to stay healthy and keep playing complete matches."

Columbus State (10-1) took control of the match after doubles as they swept all three matches. At the top spot,
Beatriz Leon and
Beatriz Lopez recorded a nice 8-5 victory to keep on the winning track.Â
Camila Tobar and
Giorgia Vitale dominated second doubles racing to an 8-0 win. Third doubles was tight as
Kirsa Utech and
Rachael Williams battled for a 9-8 win to cap off the sweep.

In singles action, Nebraska Kearney got its only win of the day at second singles as Utech dropped a tight 7-6, 6-3 match.

The Lady Cougars took the remaining five matches to grab the 8-1 win. At first singles, Vitale won a big match over her opponent 6-1, 6-4 while 15th-ranked Lopez swept her foe 6-0, 6-0 at third singles. Keeping her winning streak going, 27th-ranked Tobar took fourth singles 6-0, 6-2. Completing the win, 33rd-ranked Leon breezed to a 6-2, 6-2 win at fifth singles while Tadijin won sixth 6-4, 7-5.

Columbus State will have a few days off before hosting Flagler on Friday, March 24 at 10 a.m.
