MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The seventh-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team return to action on Sunday blanking Montevallo 5-0 in a Peach Belt Conference match. The action took place at the UM Tennis Court Complex.
The Lady Cougars improve to 16-2 and 11-0 in PBC play while Montevallo is now 16-7 and 4-7 in conference.
CSU swept doubles play to go up 3-0 before singles action. At the top spot, 19
th-ranked
Giorgia Vitale and
Camila Tobar had no problem winning the match 8-2.
Beatriz Leon and
Olivera Tadijin also breezed by their opponents 8-3 at second doubles to record a victory. To cap off the sweep,
Kirsa Utech and
Rachael Williams took third doubles 8-4.
Needing just two wins to clinch the match, Tobar and Leon ran the race to pick up victories taking third and fourth singles, respectively. Tobar won her match 6-0, 6-1 while Leon posted the 6-1, 6-0 victory.
In the unfinished matches, Tadijin and
Saravinder Pannu both won their first sets 6-1. Utech was knotted up at four-all in the first set while Vitale was down a set at first singles.
Columbus State will be back in action on Thursday, April 13 taking on another top-10 opponent. The Lady Cougars will play sixth-ranked West Florida in Pensacola, Fla.
