ROME, Ga. – The third-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team made it nine straight victories with a 9-0 win over Shorter on Thursday. The nonconference match was played in Rome, Ga.

Columbus State (16-1) is off to its best start to a season since 2012, when the Lady Cougars won their first 19 matches.

The Lady Cougars rolled through doubles play, led by an 8-0 sweep from
Giorgia Vitale and
Marleen Tilgner in the third position.
Beatriz Lopez and
Noa Davico were 8-1 winners at second doubles and
Natalia Kattah Paz and
Candice Paya grabbed an 8-2 win at the top spot.

Lopez had a quick day in singles, leading 3-1 in the opening set when her opponent was forced to retire. Davico won 6-2, 6-1 at second and Vitale was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at third.

Tilgner lost just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth, while
Luise Sachs and
Natalia Kattah Paz turned in clean 6-0, 6-0 victories at fifth and sixth, respectively.

Columbus State is at home on Saturday to take on No. 31 Georgia College. The match will begin at 2 p.m. at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
