LIVINGSTON, Ala - The sixth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team took down West Alabama 5-2 on Sunday. The match took place at the Vaughan Tennis Complex in Livingston, Alabama.
The Lady Cougars grabbed two doubles wins to secure the lone point before singles play. 10th-ranked
Luise Sachs and
Noa Davico took their match 6-3 in the second position while
Candice Paya and
Natalia Kattah Paz squeaked one out 7-5. The lone loss in doubles came at the top position with second-ranked
Beatriz Lopez and
Marleen Tilgner falling 3-6 to Georgina Salom and Andrea Tomassone.
In singles play it was the top three positions jumping out to wins to help the Lady Cougars to victory. 25th-ranked Tilgner played at the top position and took down her opponent 6-3, 2-6, 7-6. 22nd-ranked Lopez bounced back as well, losing 6-7 in the opening set before rallying to take the next two 6-2, 6-4. Paya went three sets as well, but came out victorious 7-6, 3-6, 6-2.
In the fourth position West Alabama snagged a point with Sachs falling 3-6, 4-6. With the match already in hand, the remaining two positions played a single set tiebreaker to tally the final points. Davico fell 3-8 to Tomassone while Paz grabbed an 8-2 win in her tiebreaker.
Columbus State will be right back on the courts in Columbus to take on Georgia Southwestern on Monday, Feb. 25. The match will begin at 2 p.m. at the Walden Tennis Center.
