AMERICUS, Ga. - The sixth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team cruised their way to a 7-0 sweep over Georgia Southwestern Saturday. The match took place in Americus, Ga.
Columbus State (8-3, 1-0 PBC) got started in a big way in doubles play as all three duos steamrolled their way to 6-1 wins. Beatriz Lopez teamed up with Clara Audap at first singles taking down Hannah Hogg and Sophia Winters. In second doubles it was 10th-ranked Luise Sachs and Noa Davico who took down the Hurricane duo of Celia del Castillo and Maria Taboada. Candice Paya and Natalia Kattah Paz teamed up in third doubles securing a 6-1 win just like they did when these two teams met last month.Â
25th-ranked Tilgner got the nod at top singles coming away with a straight set 6-2, 6-2 victory. It was her seventh win in singles this season, the fifth time she has won at the top spot. 22nd-ranked Lopez played at second singles and dominated her way to another Lady Cougars straight set win, taking down del Castillo 6-0, 6-1.Â
In third singles it was 46th-ranked Paya that got to take on her same singles opponent from the previous time these two met in Taboada. The sophomore had one of the best efforts of the day, not allowing her counterpart to win a single game as Paya came out victorious 6-0, 6-0. 10th-ranked Sachs would keep the train rolling for CSU with another straight set win at 6-2, 6-1.Â
In the final two spots it was two more straight set wins for the Lady Cougars to complete the singles sweep. Paz won 6-3, 6-1 at fifth singles while 18th-ranked Davico finished it off with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph.Â
Columbus State will next jump outside of conference play to take on 8th-ranked West Florida Tuesday, March 19. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
