Box Score
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The third-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team opened the 2020 season with a challenge falling to Division I Charleston Southern 4-3 on Saturday. The match was played at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex in Charleston, S.C.

Charleston Southern earned the doubles point to begin things on Saturday winning at the second and third doubles position. CSU was up at first doubles, however, with Amanda Citre and Neila Trklja leading Madalina Man and Luiza Fullana 4-3 when play was suspended.

The Lady Cougars (0-1) made things interesting in singles play though. After CSU dropped fifth singles to get down 2-0, 17th-ranked Beatriz Lopez earned a win at the third position. Right after that, 21st-ranked Candice Paya evened the match with a straight-set victory at the second spot.

Charleston Southern won fourth singles, but Citre added to the drama by registering her first collegiate win at the sixth position setting the stage for the decisive match.

In the marquee singles match, 10th-ranked Luise Sachs dropped the first set to Tiffany Pyritz 6-3 and batted in the second eventually falling 7-5.

With the victory, Charleston Southern improves to 81-16 at home since 2010.

Columbus State will have a week off before hosting Georgia Southwestern in a nonconference match at the John W. Walden Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 8. The match will begin at 2 p.m.
