COLUMBUS - Despite facing unprecedented circumstances, the Columbus State University student-athletes were quite impressive in the classroom this spring semester posting a 3.25 overall grade point average.
Out of a total of 236 student-athletes, 131, or 58-percent, completed the semester with a grade point average of a 3.0 or higher. Thirty-four achieved perfect 4.0s.
Thirteen out of the 14 CSU varsity teams had cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or higher with 11 finishing the spring over the 3.2 mark.
"I am incredibly proud of the focus and effort of Cougar student-athletes in achieving simply amazing academic results for this challenging semester," added
Todd Reeser, CSU Director of Athletics.
For the overall 2019-20 academic year, nine teams had better than a 3.0 overall GPA.
Earlier in May, 47 former or current Columbus State student-athletes received their degrees during the institution's virtual Conferring of Degrees program. Due to guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention related to the coronavirus (COVID-19), as well as guidance from the Governor's Office and the University System of Georgia (USG), Columbus State postponed the Spring 2020 Commencement Ceremony. An alternate ceremony will be held in the fall.
