COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University women's golf team will begin their spring season in Hilton Head, S.C. as the Lady Cougars will compete in the Battle at Hilton Head hosted by Lincoln Memorial University. The event will be held at Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.
Juniors Ana Thorne, Victoria Libaak and Monica Ruiz Pavon as well as sophomores Selina Budde and Megan Rowe will be competing for Columbus State in the season-opening event.
Thorne, a 2020 All-Peach Belt Conference First Team nominee, played in all seven events for the Lady Cougars during her junior campaign. She posted a 77.2 stroke average in 15 rounds having three top-10 finishes, including two top-5 performances. In her first tournament of the year, Thorne shot an 87 to finish in a tie for 33rd with a two-day score of 254 in the Lady Flames Regional Preview.
In the fall season, Budde finished second in the Lady Flames Regional Preview in Cleveland, Tenn. During her sophomore year campaign (2019-20), the Ulm, Germany native shot 78.53 average in 15 rounds in all seven events the Lady Cougars competed in. Budde posted one round below par.
Pavon did not compete during the fall season, however in the 2019-20 season the junior played in all seven events for the Columbus State. Hailing from Marbella, Spain, she shot an 85.40 average in 15 rounds, posting one round below par. She also had one top-10 finish at the LeeAnn Noble Memorial tournament.
An All-PBC Second Team nominee, Libaak Played also played in all seven events for CSU including two top-10 finishes and one top-5 performance at the Emerald Coast Classic. The Cordoba, Argentina native posted three rounds below par.
The two-day event will begin on Monday, Feb. 22 and wrap up Tuesday, Feb. 23 in Hilton Head.
