Box Score AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Columbus State University women's tennis team defeated Augusta University 6-1 on the road on Friday, March 6, improving their record to 3-3. It was the first Peach Belt Conference match of the season for CSU.
The Lady Cougars dominated singles play as each CSU player beat their opponents.
Luise Sachs,
Valentina Abrile,
Sara Ramirez Goncalves,
Yelena Labat and
Agostina Bigotti each topped their their competition in straight sets.
Amanda Citre was forced into a third set against AU's Edith Rueda after winning the first 6-3 and losing the second 7-6. Citre stayed the course though to come out on top with a third set 10-7 tiebreak win.
In doubles, Columbus State went 2-0 as the teams of Abrile and Ramirez defeated Carlota Costa Manero and Clara Bascunana 6-2, and Citre and Sachs took down Rueda and Maria Alice Viera 6-0.
Beatriz Lopez and Labat did not finish their match.
The Lady Cougars will return to Columbus to host Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference matchup on Friday, March 12 at the John W. Walden Tennis Center starting at 2 p.m.
