Wingate, N.C. - Columbus State University first baseman Steven Minter has been named the Southeast Region Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), officials announced Tuesday afternoon. Also, Cougar junior right-hander Devin Dudal is the NCBWA Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week.
Minter was named the Peach Belt Conference Tournament MVP for his efforts, piling up nine RBIs in two games over the weekend as the Cougars plated 40 runs to claim the title. He went 4-for-9 in the two games with a pair of homers, while also scoring five runs. Minter went 3-for-4 in the opener with a homer, five RBIs and scored four times while also drawing two walks as CSU prevailed 25-5. He followed by connecting on a grand slam in the third inning of game two, giving the Cougars a 6-3 lead. They would go on to win 15-4 to capture the tourney title.
Minter is the second Cougar to be named the NCBWA Southeast Region Player of the Week this season. Isaac Bouton took home the award on April 13.
Dudal went the distance in the championship game on Sunday for the Cougars. He allowed just three runs on four hits in the nine-inning effort, striking out six while walking three. Dudal threw 115 pitches on the day. After allowing three runs in the first inning, the junior allowed just one unearned run over the next eight frames. He retired the final 11 batters of the game to earn All-Tournament honors.
Columbus State is preparing for the NCAA Southeast Regional, which begins on Thursday, May 27 in Tigerville, S.C.
