Box Score ATLANTA - The 13th-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team claimed its fourth straight win on Sunday after defeating DII power Emory University 7-2 in Atlanta. The match was played under DIII rules, with each doubles match counting as a point.
CSU (8-4) began the day by taking two of the three doubles matches.
Valentina Abrile and
Mariana Ramirez started the day off with an 8-4 win at first singles. However, Eliza McPherron and Jessica Fatemi knocked off 34th-ranked ranked
Yelena Labat and
Sara Ramirez to even the match at 1.
Second doubles was a marathon, with
Neila Trklja and
Agostina Bigotti battling Emma Cartledge and Stephanie Shulman in a tiebreaker. The Lady Cougar duo outlasted their competition, taking the tiebreak 11-9 to put CSU on top.
Columbus State was dominant in singles, taking four of the six matches in straight sets. At first singles, 22nd-ranked Trklja was the first to wrap up, breezing by McPherron 6-2, 6-1. Abrile was a 6-3, 6-4 winner over Christina Watson at third doubles, while
Mariana Ramirez took down Cartledge 6-1, 7-5 at the second spot to push the CSU lead to 5-1.
The sixth point of the afternoon came from Bigotti at sixth singles where she was a 6-3, 6-3 against Alexa Goetz. CSU's final point came from
Luciana Galves, who defeated Ana Perez 6-3, 6-3 in the fifth spot.
Shulman registered's Emory's (4--5) lone win in singles play at fourth singles. She won a 3-set match 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 over Labat.
