Men's Golf Grabs Seventh PBC Championship

The Cougars won the tournament by a stroke in a thrilling finish.

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - The Columbus State University men's golf program is once again atop the Peach Belt Conference. The 19th-ranked Cougars held off Flagler College over the final round of the PBC Championship on Sunday to capture the program's seventh conference title at the Sea Palms Resort in St. Simons Island, Ga.

The Cougars fired a 3-under 281 on Sunday to win the championship by just one stroke over the Saints. Overall, CSU shot a 3-over 855 over the three-day tournament.

It's CSU's first PBC Championship since 2016 and gives Columbus State the PBC's automatic bid into next month's NCAA South/Southeast Regional.

What a huge day for the Columbus State golf program", commented Director of Golf David McMinn. "For both our men's and women's teams to be crowned conference champions on the same day is a historic achievement and a day we will all long remember!

Our guys knew we had our backs against the wall coming in here but we planned, prepared and executed to perfection, and I couldn't be more proud of what these guys achieved this week. This is a talented group with phenomenal team spirit and it might be late in the season but we're only getting started!"

It was a complete team effort on Sunday as all five Cougars shot even-par or better. Martin Gruendemann led the way with a 3-under 68, while the rest of the lineup all shot even-par 71s.

Jordan Doull earned a spot on the All-Tournament team after finishing tied for second with a 4-under 209. The senior knocked in four birdies over round three, including a key one on the par-5 16th. The five-time All-PBC selection had the biggest putt of the afternoon, making a par on the 18th to secure the championship for the Cougars.

Gruendemann was on fire for Columbus State in the final round, birding four of his first seven holes. After another birdie on the ninth, he pared the next six holes before moving to 5-under on the 16th. He bogeyed the 17th and 18th, but still managed to finish with one of the best rounds in the entire tournament. Overall, Gruendemann was even-par throughout the tournament with a 213.

Arran Kanth carded his second straight even-par 71 on Sunday en route to the team title. The sophomore tore up the front nine, shooting a 3-under after collecting four birdies to begin his day. He found another important birdie on the par-5 16th to finish with a 3-over 216 in the tournament. Kanth was tied for 16th overall.

The cleanest scorecard from any Cougar on Sunday was from Eric Wowor. In his first PBC Championship, Wowor made just two bogeys over the final round, while making 15 pars throughout the day. The senior finished in 22nd with a 5-over 218.

Preston Wagaman had his best round of the tournament on Sunday to help keep CSU atop the leaderboard in the final round. The long-time Cougar birdied the first hole before a stretch of 12 straight pars. Wagaman came up clutch over the final holes, birding the 17th and paring the 18th to turn in the even-par 71. He finished tied for 24th with a 7-over 220.

Maxime Legros of Lander won the individual championship with a 7-under 206.
