DAVIE, Fla. - The 17th-ranked Columbus State University women's golf team played the program's first-ever round in the NCAA South Regional on Monday, shooting a 23-over 307 to begin the three-day tournament at the Grande Oaks Golf Club in Davie, Fla.
The Lady Cougars are 10th on the leaderboard, but the highlight of the day was
Victoria Libaak. The senior is tied for first individually after firing an even-par 71 over the opening round. Francesca Santoni of Saint Leo University and Hanna Ahlander of Nova Southeastern University are the other players in the field at even-par.
Libaak began her day with a 1-over over her first nine holes before turning it on over holes 1-9. The Cordoba, Argentina native birdied the par-4 first to set the tone for a 1-under 35 on the front nine of the course.
Selina Budde was the next Lady Cougar on the leaderboard after ending Monday tied for 44th. She got off to a rocky start with a 5-over 40 over her opening nine holes but rebounded to save her round. Budde played her final nine holes at just 2-over to card a 7-over 78 in round one.
Beryl Giletti and Maddie Krueger each posted 8-over 79s to begin their tournaments. The two players got to their scores in different routes as Krueger played well over holes 10-18, while Giletti played her best over the front nine of the course. The duo begins Tuesday tied for 51st.
Ana Thorne had CSU's drop score on Monday with a 9-over 80 and is tied for 55th.
Second-ranked Lynn University (+11 295) leads the regional by one stroke over fifth-ranked Anderson University and Saint Leo. The top five teams from the regional will advance to the NCAA Championship later this month
Columbus State will begin teeing off at 8:11 a.m. on Tuesday.
