DAVIE, Fla. - The 17th-ranked Columbus State University women's golf team is in 10th after the second round of the NCAA South Regional. The three-day postseason event is being held at the Grande Oaks Golf Club in Davie, Fla.Â
CSU posted a 21-over 305 over the second round and will have to climb the leaderboard to make the cut for the NCAA Championship, as the top five teams following Wednesday's final round will advance to the national championship. The Lady Cougars are 13 strokes back from fifth-place Barry University.
Leading the way again for Columbus State was
Victoria Libaak. Libaak is setting herself up in a great position to make a run to qualify for the NCAA Championship as an individual. Libaak turned in a 4-over 75 on Tuesday to finish the day tied for third. She rebounded for a rocky start, knocking in six pars over a stretch of seven holes to turn up the heat. The senior continued to hit her stride late, birding the par-5 third and the par-4 sixth to post even-par over her final nine holes.Â
If CSU doesn't finish inside the top five, Libaak will need to finish Wednesday as one of the top two individuals not on an advancing team to qualify for the NCAA Championship.
Beryl Giletti improved in round two, carding a 5-over 76 to jump seven spots on the leaderboard. Giletti sunk 10 pars over her round and found two birdies, including beginning the day with one on the par-4 10th. She tees off on Wednesday tied for 44th with a 13-over 155.
Two Lady Cougars posted 6-over 77s on Tuesday to round out the Columbus State team score.
Ana Thorne played a 1-over across her first nine holes before concluding her day with a 5-over through holes 1-9.
Maddy Krueger was the other CSU player at 6-over as she was consistent throughout the day. The Midland, Ga. native shot a 3-over on both the front and back nine. Krueger is tied for 51st with a 14-over 156, while Thorne is tied for 56th with a 15-over 157.
Selina Budde also competed for Columbus State on Tuesday. Budde was 8-over in round two and is tied for 56th heading into the final round with a 15-over 157.
Columbus State tees off at 8 a.m. on Wednesday in the final round.Â
