ANDERSON, S.C. - The Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) announced the 2023 Southeast Women's Soccer All-Region Team on Tuesday and four Cougars have been honored.
Emma Beddow and
Brooke Ouimette have been named to the First Team and
Lizzie Hedrick and
Sarah Hungerford were tabbed to the Second Team.
Junior forward
Emma Beddow led Columbus State with 14 goals, 11 assists, 39 points and a 0.557 shots on goal percentage. She started and played in all 21 games for the Cougars as the leading scorer with five game-winning goals. The Savannah, Ga. native also was 3-for-4 in penalty goals.
A native of Sugar Hill, Ga.,
Brooke Ouimette was the core of the CSU defense, playing and starting all 21 games. The graduate student helped the Cougars hold opponents to 1.05 goals per game, 9.8 shots per game and a 0.437 shots on goal percentage. Ouimette also showed an offensive side to her, scoring three goals and tallying three assists.
Goalkeeper
Lizzie Hedrick started 20 for the Cougars and posted a 13-3-2 record. The graduate student from Columbus recorded 59 saves for a 0.776 save percentage and only had 17 goals scored against her all season for a 0.98 GAA.
Sophomore midfielder
Sarah Hungerford scored eight goals and tallied two assists in 21 games played and 15 starts. The Richmond Hill, Ga. native posted a 0.452 shot on goal percentage and recorded three game-winning goals.
Lenoir-Rhyne led all teams with five All-Region honorees while Catawba and Columbus State were right behind them with four each. On the conference level, the South Atlantic led the way with 12 honorees, including eight first team members while the Peach Belt had eight of their student-athletes named to the squads. Conference Carolinas was able to place six members on the teams as well.
The Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
