COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team is set to host the Flagler College Saints in their first conference match up of the season. The Cougars come in at 6-1 and winners of their last six games. Flagler is 0-7 and has played some of the best competition Division II has to offer.
For the Cougars, Columbus State has a case for the hottest team in the country. CSU steam rolled Spring Hill College in their last series and have no signs of slowing down. The Cougars are led by reigning PBC Player of the Week,
Isaac Bouton who is leading the team with a .393 batting average and leads the team in hits (11) and doubles (4). Right behind him in the batting order,
Matthew McDade is as hot as anyone right now at the plate as he leads the Peach Belt Conference with four homeruns and 16 rbi's.
For the Saints, Mason Gray is leading Flagler in batting average (.321), hits (9), and rbi's with four. Taylor Clapp and Jaiden Warde both have a homerun a piece.
Pitching wise, this is a match up you won't want to miss. Friday is set to be a marquee pitchers duel between two of the top pitchers in the conference,
Noah Windhorst and Gage Voorhees. Windhorst is coming off a scoreless, eight inning outing last weekend against Spring Hill which earned him PBC Pitcher of the Week honors. Last year against Flagler, he pitched six and a third innings and allowed three earned runs while striking out four. Gage Voorhees has given the Cougars fits during his career at Flagler. Last year, he pitched the only game the Saints took from CSU in which he pitched eight innings while striking out eight Cougars.
Columbus State and Flagler will begin their series tomorrow, Feb. 16, at Ragsdale Field. First pitch set for 5 p.m.
