COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team is ready to welcome the 10th ranked Montevallo Falcons on Wednesday, March 8 at Ragsdale Field.
The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper came out with their rankings on March 6, which had the Cougars ranked third and the Falcons 10th. Columbus State comes in with a 14-3 record (8-1 PBC) and the Falcons are 15-2 on the season and 5-1 in the Gulf South Conference.Â
CSU is coming off a seven game road trip in which they went 5-2 with their most recent wins coming in a three-game sweep of Claflin. The Cougars scored 46 runs in the series and only allowed five.
Ian King is as hot as any hitter at the D2 level as he has nine multi-hit games out of his last 10 games started. King is currently third in the PBC with a .390 batting average and he is also tied for ninth with 23 hits on the season.Â
Montevallo is coming off a series win against the University of Alabama Huntsville but they lost the last game of the series as it snapped a 12-game win streak. The Falcons are one of the most offensively potent teams in the country as they have five batters hitting over .300 and two hitting over .400. UM has 26 homeruns on the season and they have a homerun in every game except three of them.Â
This top-10 clash is shaping up to be a high scoring affair as both teams will go to battle on Wednesday, March 8, at 4 p.m. on the campus of Columbus State University.Â
