COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team has their bags packed and ready to travel to South Carolina to take on the University of South Carolina at Beaufort. The Cougars come in with a record of 28-12 (14-10 PBC) and the Sand Sharks have a record of 12-26 and 5-19 inside the PBC
This is the first meeting between both program as USCB entered the Peach Belt Conference this year. Columbus State is entering the matchup on a three game win-streak as they are looking to make a late playoff push. They are currently in fifth but are just two games back of third place. The offense has turned it on as of late as they have score 10 or more runs in the past three games.
Steven Minter has 11 hits in his past seven games and
Connor Kirley has a hit in nine out of his last ten games.
The pitching staff has only allowed 9 runs in the last four games. They have averaged seven strikeouts a game in their last five games. The Cougars have the best era in the conference at 3.74 and they have yielded the least amount of walks out of all the teams in the PBC.
The Sand Sharks have the third best batting average in the conference at .288. USCB is 10th in the PBC in home run's and RBI's. They are led by Brian Meyer and Carson Phillips who both are batting .359 on the season. Pitching wise, USCB is 10th in the PBC with a 7.37 era as opposing batters are hitting .321 off them.
CSU will take on the Sand Sharks tomorrow, April 21 at the Richard Gray Baseball Complex at 6 p.m.
