Offensive power surge leads Cougars to Friday night win over the Bobcats

Derek Wylie hit two homers and totaled fives hits in 14-7 win.

Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Columbus State University baseball team surges to their eighth straight win on Friday, April 28 as they defeated Georgia College and State University 14-7. The Cougars are now 33-12 on the season and improve to 18-10 in PBC play. The Bobcats fall to 20-22 and 17-11 in conference play.

The Cougars came in on fire as they have won their last seven games and they continued to knock the cover off the ball as they scored 14 runs on 18 hits. With their second most hit total in a game this season, they managed to score in six out of nine innings tonight. Derek Wylie had his best game in a Cougar uniform as he had five hits on the night, two of which were long balls, and he knocked in four RBI's while he scored five runs himself. He now has over 50 RBI's on the season while he leads the Peach Belt with 17 home runs.

Win Johns blasted his eighth bomb of the season in the third inning as him and Wylie hit back-to-back homers. Ian King set a personal season-high for hits in a game tonight with four. King leads CSU with a .345 batting average on the season. Trace Twardoski and Matthew McDade also turned in multi-hit games.

On the mound, Cole English turned in his longest outing of the season with five innings pitched out of the bullpen. The Columbus State starter, Noah Windhorst, gave way to English in the fifth inning with a 7-6 lead. He went on to finish the game as he gave up one earned run while striking out two in the final five innings of the game. He moves to 4-1 on the season with a 2.15 era.

Columbus State will look to clinch the series against Georgia College and State University tomorrow, April 29 as they take on the Bobcats in a double-header starting at 1 p.m. at John Kurtz Field.
