COLUMBUS - The 2023 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-Region Teams and Regional Players of the Year have been announced in all eight regions and Columbus State University baseball players
Matthew McDade and
Derek Wylie were named to the Southeast All-Region Second Team. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. II All-America Committee.
McDade and Wylie are two of seven Peach Belt Conference players to be selected on the Southeast All-Region teams, being two of five tabbed to the second team.
McDade played and started 51 games for the Cougars, hitting .301 with 62 hits, 16 doubles, 10 home runs, 62 RBIs and 53 runs scored. He posted a .527 slugging percentage and a .390 on base percentage. As the CSU second baseman, the senior from Cape Coral, Fla. recorded a .982 fielding percentage, tallying 222 catches, 87 put outs and 131 assists.
Wylie played and started 52 games for Columbus State and marked a .325 batting average, leading the Cougars with 67 hits, 19 home runs, 64 RBIs, 58 runs scored and a .665 slugging percentage. The Warner Robins, Ga. native posted a .433 on base percentage with nine doubles, two triples and 35 walks. The junior outfielder recorded a .983 fielding percentage with 118 catches, 111 put outs and five assists.
Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 40 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel.
