Box Score 2 COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team split a doubleheader with Catawba College Saturday afternoon, winning game one 10-0 and falling 2-3 in the nightcap. After today, the Cougars are 3-4 and Catawba is 4-2.
Game 1: CSU 10 CC 0
- Win Johns put the Cougars on board with a three-run home run to left center field in the first inning
- CSU scored two runs in the third, with Cody Ferguson scoring on a wild pitch and Johns hitting a sacrifice fly, plating Derek Wylie to make it 5-0
- In the seventh, Wylie hit an RBI single down the right field line, Colby Brabston ripped a two-run homer to right center and Andrew Rubin smacked a two-run RBI single to left field to end the gameĀ
- Johnny Dow received his second win of the season on the mound, only allowing four hits in his complete game effort
- Wylie led the offense going 4-for-4 with three runs scored, and Ferguson, Brabston and Johns each tallied two hits
Game 2: CSU 2 CC 3
- Catawba scored one run in the second inning off of a solo home run to left field
- The Chiefs scored two more runs in the seventh with two RBI singlesĀ
- Wylie hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to minimize Catawba's lead, but couldn't string together more runs
- Trace Goforth collected the loss after pitching 3.0 innings
- Wylie led the Cougars going 2-for-2 with two RBIs
