Box Score COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University baseball team defeated the University of West Florida, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon to complete the series sweep. This is Columbus State's sixth consecutive win, and the Cougars move to 9-7 overall. With the loss West Florida falls to 9-5 overall and 4-4 on the road.
Colby Brabston led the Cougars offense driving in all four runs with a two-run homer and a late two-run single in the bottom of the eighth.
Joey Gill earns his first win this season on the mound after 3.0 innings pitched, allowing no hits and striking out six.
Peyton Burton gets his second save of the season after entering the game in the top of the ninth and ending the Argos chances of a comeback.
How It Happened
The University of West Florida made the first mark after sending a home run to center field, bringing in two runs.
Columbus State fought back in the 4th after a Brabston crushed a home run to right center that drove in Andrew Rubin, tying up the game.
The tension mounted in the 8th as UWF took the lead with a wild pitch and an error by CSU.
Columbus State rallied again with a Brabston single to right field, which drove in another two runs to secure the victory with a final score of 4-3.
