Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Columbus State University baseball team beat Peach Belt Conference opponent Flagler College 10-1 Saturday afternoon. The Cougars improve to 13-9 (3-2 PBC).
Derek Wylie got things started in the top of the first inning, knocking in two runs off of a single through the left side. With runners on first and second, Flagler dropped a fly ball hit by Trevor Gruszka, allowing Wylie to score. Kole McGlumphy then hit a sac fly and Luke Hasty followed up with a RBI double down the left field line to give CSU a 5-0 lead in the first.Â
The Cougars scored another run in the fourth thanks to a Win Johns RBI single, bringing in Cody Ferguson who singled earlier in the inning and advanced to third on a Wylie double.Â
CSU tallied on two more runs in the sixth. Colby Brabston hit a ball to second base, scoring Ferguson. Brabston then stole second base and Andrew Rubin stole home to make it an 8-0 ball game. Â
In the seventh, Columbus State added two more runs off a balk and a throwing error from the catcher trying to throw out Jackson Chizek, who stole third. From the bad throw, Chizek scored.Â
The Saints scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning off a fielder's choice.Â
Cody Ferguson led CSU hitting 5-for-6 with three runs scored. Wylie, Johns and Hasty each tallied two hits. Johnny Dow got the win on the mound after 7.0 innings. Â
