Women’s Tennis Season Ends in Close Contest with No. 3 North Georgia

The Lady Cougars' run in the NCAA Tournament came to an end as they lost a close match to the Nighthawks, 4-3.

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The 11th-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team saw its 2024 season come to an end in the NCAA Championship Southeast Regional, Falling to third-ranked North Georgia by a 4-3 score Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Cougars wrapped up the 2024 season with an overall record of 15-8. Columbus State spent multiple weeks of the season ranked in the national top 15 and climbed as high as a No. 6 national ranking.

The Lady Cougars set a promising tone for the team match, securing the first point with two impressive wins in doubles at the number one and two spots.

At the top doubles spot for Columbus State, Nikoline Gullacksen and Mariana Ramirez maintained their dominant play, defeating the team of Nighthawks 6-4.

At number two doubles, Yelena Labat and Laura Pesickova defeated UNG 6-2, becoming the second team to win their doubles match and giving CSU a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

Nikoline Gullacksen battled back after dropping set one to V. Wojikova on court two to win the point 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

On court three, Laura Pesickova took J. Lippert to three sets, claiming the victory and another point for Columbus State 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.

The Nighthawks walked away with the win on courts one (5-7, 6-3, 6-4), four (5-7, 6-1, 6-2), five (6-4, 6-4) and six (6-1, 6-2).

The match on court one was a nail-biter, with Mariana Ramirez giving it her all until the end. Despite her valiant efforts, she was defeated by A. Linnikova, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4, ultimately giving the Nighthawks the clinch.
