Previewing the Cougars
The Cougars (5-5) return to action after a week away from play, last competing in the home opener back on Feb. 18 in the 12-inning, 9-8 win over Valdosta State (Ga.).
Cayden Evans remains the leading guy at the plate, recording a .462 batting average for 18 hits, four doubles, seven RBIs, and one homer while slugging .641. Five others have notched double-digit hits with Warrick Wilmot leading with 12 RBIs.
Ryan Suppa leads on the bump with a 2-1 record and a 3.63 ERA ahead of Trace Goforth with a 3.86 ERA and a 1-2 record. Suppa has tossed for 17.1 innings while Goforth has pitched for 14.0 innings. Goforth leads with 12 strikeouts while Suppa is second with 14.
Scouting the Knights
Columbus State welcomes the Knights (9-7) to Ragsdale Field on Tuesday in what is a preview for a future Peach Belt Conference clash. Middle Georgia has been extended an invitation to join the PBC as their NCAA Division II provisional process is pending approval for acceptance.
The Knights are currently competing in the NAIA, coming off three losses to William Carey (Miss.) over the weekend. Datren Bray and Jose Vargas lead the way with 16 hits apiece as well as nine and 10 RBIs, respectively. Bray has notched a .356 average at the dish while slugging .444. On the mound, Titus Richardson and Kenneth Miller carry the most innings, with ERAs of 2.76 and 3.86, respectively.
Scouting the Golden Rams
The Golden Rams (9-4) are coming off a 2-1 weekend against Lane College (Tenn.). CSU and ASU will finally meet after rescheduling the original meeting of Feb. 12 due to weather in Columbus.
Austin Roberts leads the bats with a .462 average while Luke Addison leads with 20 hits and 15 RBIs on a .400 average. Landon Kiefer leads on the mound with a 1.64 ERA ahead of Calvin Baker and Brady Davis who hold a 2.08 ERA and a 6.06 ERA, respectively.
