CSU Travels to Meet Up Against Lenoir-Rhyne and Young Harris

The Cougars will play the Bears Friday followed by the Mountain Lions Saturday and Sunday

COLUMBUS – The CSU Baseball team will travel to Young Harris, GA to face off against Lenoir-Rhyne University as well as the Mountain Lions of Young Harris College.  

Weekend Schedule  

Friday, Feb. 7 – Lenior-Rhyne at 2:00 p.m. ET 

Saturday, Feb. 8 – Young Harris College at 12:00 p.m. ET  

Sunday, Feb. 9 – Young Harris College at 2:00 p.m. ET 

Cougars vs Bears  

This is the first meetup between CSU and the Bears of Lenior-Rhyne University since 2001. In that game over a decade ago, the Cougars swept the weekend with game three being a 13-6 win. Currently, the Bears are 3-1 overall with the game being a loss to Barton College Tuesday, February 4. In their 2024 season, Lenior-Rhyne went 30-22 overall and 16-14 in the South Atlantic Conference. The team made it to the SAC Tournament but could not clinch the conference title.  

Cougars vs Mountain Lions 

The familiar faces of former PBC opponents, Young Harris look to add another win to the record against the Cougars. In their last meeting on February 18, 2024, CSU took the 9-5 win at home despite losing the series. As of now, Young Harris is 3-0 after a sweeping Auburn Montogomery this past weekend. In their 2024 campaign, the Mountain Lions went 41-15 overall and 22-8 in the Conference Carolinas. Young Harris made it to the NCAA Southeast Regional but ultimately lost to No. 1 seed Catawba.  

CSU baseball opened their season the first weekend of February at the University of West Alabama. In game one, the Cougars opened with a 7-0 win against the Tigers. Cayden Evans and freshman Luke Miller led the bats with two hits each and eight hits as a team in the game. Game two of the series was a loss for Columbus State as West Alabama came back for a 13-6 victory. On the last day of the series, the Cougars bounded back to win 8-2 and clinch the series. In total, The Cougars recorded a .235 batting average with eight hits and seven walks. Cody Ferguson had the highest number of runs of three and two hits, including a homer. Ryan Suppa closed out the win for the Cougars striking out seven batters and allowing a single run, two hits, and a walk.
