ALBANY, Ga. - Columbus State University men's and women's track & field competed in the Alice Coachman Invite on Saturday, racing to a pair of top five team finishes.
The men's program captured second place out of 10 teams with 130.5 points, landing 17.5 points shy of the hosts Albany State (Ga.). As for the women, they took fifth with 59 team points to land 15 points ahead of fellow PBC member Georgia College.
Owen Hartshorn led the running events with two top 10 placements in the longer-distanced races. He took ninth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:01.82 and raced to a time of 4:09.46 for sixth in the 1,500-meters. Nicholas Phillips then notched a 5,000-meters time of 16:50.72 for eighth.
As for the hurdles section, Dante Walls notched eighth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.68s and earned a podium placement in the 400 hurdles with a time of 53.55s for third. Mark Ravenscraft finished seventh with a time of 56.07s followed by Tristen Cole's 10th-place performance of 57.85s. Capping off the track portion, Zane Bell finished sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11:59.75.
For the jumps, CSU began with three placers within the top 10. Zameron Boozer led in second with a mark of 1.96m followed by sixth place by Kirk Seeley Jr. with a mark of 1.81m. Jarvis Evans rounded out the event with a mark of 1.81m on his third attempt to finish seventh. Brandon Dodd highlighted the long jump with a second-place finish after clearing a mark of 6.81m. Joey Turner followed in the triple jump with a clearance of 13.74m for third place.
CSU dominated the men's pole vault section, placing six individuals within the top 10. Alexander Kendall led the way with a height of 4.41m to win the event while Camerin Rigdon and Cristian Sumo tied for second with marks of 4.41m as well. The pair cleared the height on the third attempt while Kendall aced it in one try.
In the throws, the Cougars made themselves known in the shot put with three top 10 placers. Jacere Cooper and Tereil Mitchum highlighted by earning podium honors with throws of 14.03m and 13.73m for second and third, respectively.
Columbus State took wins in the discus, hammer, and javelin events. Joshua Dare cleared a throw of 46.15m in the discus to capture the event with Mitchum tossing the hammer for a mark of 45.84m for first followed by second from Dare with a 44.55m toss. Raylene Magby secured first in the Javelin with a throw of 39.41m to round out the Cougars.

As for the women, Nakha Montgomery led the way in the short distance with two top five finishes. She opened with a time of 12.13s for fourth in the 100m and followed with a 200m race of 25.35s for fifth. Layla Albright took 10th in the 800m with a time of 2:41.71.
In the hurdles, Liza Varnum captured a top five placement in the 400 hurdles while also taking eighth in the 100 hurdles. She took fourth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:08.00 and finished with a time of 15.87s in the 100 hurdles. Varnum added another eighth-place finish to her tally with a 1.37m mark in the high jump.
The Lady Cougars swept the top four placements in the pole vault with Sarah Arnold taking top honors with a clearance of 3.20m. Faith O'Neal followed in second with a mark of 2.74m followed by Amber Johnson in third with 2.74m and Alesia Johnson in fourth with 2.59m. Jamelaah Mosley notched seventh in the triple jump for a mark of 9.07m.
For the throws, Kayli Miller captured three top 10 placements leading CSU with fourth place in the discus (31.60m, sixth in the hammer (32.69m), and ninth in the shot put (9.90m)
