HOMER, Ga. – Columbus State University women's golf competed in the 3rd Annual UNG Bracket Challenge hosted by North Georgia at the 6,106-yard, par-72 Chimney Oaks Golf Club in Homer, Ga.
The Lady Cougars competed in the two-day medal match play event that included three other teams which were No. 16-ranked UNG, No. 21 Lander, and Eastern Florida State, finishing fourth.
Following a 36-hole seeding round on Monday, Columbus State was seeded fourth after finishing with a 36-hole total of 57-over and played against the third-seeded Eastern Florida State on Tuesday who carded a total of 46-over in the seeding round.
Lexis Fickel fired a career low score of two-under in the first 18 holes and followed with a seven-over performance to close out Monday. The graduate student was then matched up against EFSC's Brittany Odic, earning CSU's first medal match play point after shooting a three-over round of 75, five strokes ahead of Odic.
Samantha Dewendt Morales took the team point in her match versus Jenna Barnett, carding a six-over round of 78 to win by five strokes. She opened the event with a five-over performance in round one and a seven-over second round.
Andrea Peraza halved her match against Ann Burel on Tuesday as both players marked a 10-over third round of 82. Peraza bounced back on Tuesday after carding rounds of 26-over and 22-over in the first two rounds, respectively.
Sydney Himes fell by seven strokes to Mila Tang, finishing Tuesday with a 12-over third round 84. She opened the tournament with a five-over round one and an 11-over second round. Lastly, Laura DeLaubert fell in her match to Emma Parker by five strokes. DeLaubert went 12-over, nine-over, and 14-over in rounds one, two, and three, respectively.
Both CSU and EFSC finished with 2.5 points after the medal match play. Columbus State carded a third round of 319 (+31) while East Florida State finished with a final round of 320 (+32). As for the three-round total, EFSC finished with a total of 942 (+78), ahead of the Lady Cougars by 10 strokes.
Head-to-Head Medal Play: Each team medal match consisted of five points with one point being awarded for each individual match, or in the case of an individual match being tied a half point was awarded. Each individual match was played to its completion and the first team to win three points within the team match advanced. The point in an individual match was awarded to the player with the lowest round in stroke play format. If a team match is tied after all five individual matches, the total strokes of the five players from each team will be calculated with the winning team having the fewest strokes.
