Monika Temkova of the women's tennis team has been named the Columbus State Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Chick-fil-A on Macon Road and Manchester Expressway, following a dominant performance over the weekend that helped the No. 11 Cougars to consecutive wins over No. 21 Auburn University at Montgomery and SCAD-Atlanta.
Temkova, a transfer from Limestone University, made an immediate impact in her Columbus State debut, going 3-0 across two matches for CSU on Friday and Sunday.
In the season opener against Auburn-Montgomery, Temkova teamed with redshirt-sophomore
Sofia Lauretti for a 6-1 win in the No. 3 position.
Singles play saw the Skopje, Macedonia native turn in a perfect 2-0 weekend, winning 6-3, 6-0 over AUM in the No. 2 singles match, followed by a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at No. 2 against SCAD on Sunday afternoon.
Temkova, a psychology major, was asked what she loves most about her sport and responded, "It's fun, but mentally challenging at the same time."
