AUGUSTA, GA. – Columbus State senior
Jackson Chizek has been named the Peach Belt Conference Baseball Player of the Week after guiding Columbus State to a perfect 3-0 record in a weekend series against Claflin University.
Chizek reached base in 10 of his 15 plate appearances across three games on Saturday and Sunday, collecting seven hits and drawing three walks. Of his seven hits, three went for extra bases, including two doubles and a triple.
For the week, the Loganville, Ga. native slashed .583/.667/.917 with five runs scored, six RBI, and a stolen base. In the field, the shortstop was nearly perfect, turning in a .910 fielding percentage as the Cougars won all three games by a combined 35 runs.
Chizek currently leads all Peach Belt players with a .484 batting average, tallying 15 hits with three doubles, a triple, and a home run, to go along with nine RBI and eight runs scored. He also leas the PBC with a .568 on-base percentage and ranks fourth among qualified players with a .742 slugging percentage through nine games.
Columbus State steps out of conference play this weekend for a three-game series against Ohio Dominican University on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's doubleheader with the Panthers is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start on Feb. 28, followed by a single game on Sunday, March 1 at 1:00 p.m.
