Columbus — Junior Jax Yoxtheimer of the baseball team has been named the Columbus State Athletics Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Chick-fil-A on Macon Road and Manchester Expressway, following a dominant performance over the weekend that helped lead Columbus State to a three-game sweep of Claflin University.

Yoxtheimer was a nightmare for opposing pitchers on Saturday and Sunday, reaching base in 11 of his 16 plate appearances with six hits and five walks.

The Phenix City, Ala. native hit .545 across three games with two doubles. He also scored seven runs, drove in five RBI, and swiped six stolen bases as CSU won all three games by a combined 35 total runs. Yoxtheimer now has 17 stolen bases this season, ranking him first among all NCAA Division II players

Yoxtheimer is a graduate of Central High School (Phenix City, Ala.) and is majoring in Business Management. When asked, "What is one thing sports have taught you about life?" Yoxtheimer responded, "Failure is going to happen. It's all about how you respond to it, you either grow from it or let it bring you down."

Columbus State steps out of conference play this weekend for a three-game series against Ohio Dominican University on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's doubleheader with the Panthers is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start on Feb. 28, followed by a single game on Sunday, March 1 at 1:00 p.m.
