Wilson and Folds Stifle ODU Offense in Saturday Doubleheader

COLUMBUS, GA. – Columbus State starting pitchers Sawyer Wilson and Connor Folds each turned in ace-worthy performances in a doubleheader sweep of Ohio Dominican University on Saturday as Columbus State won 19-0 (7 inn.) in game one, followed by an 8-1 victory in game two at Ragsdale Field.

The duo of Wilson and Folds combined to pitch 14 innings on the mound for CSU, allowing just five hits with 15 total strikeouts as Columbus State moved its season record to 7-7 overall and extended its current win streak to six games in a row.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
  • In the opening inning of play, Columbus State put up a crooked number with two runs on three hits, including an RBI double from senior Cayden Evans.
  • An RBI single from junior Corey Berry put CSU ahead 3-0 through three innings of action.
  • Columbus State extended its lead to 8-0 after a five-run third inning that included RBI singles from seniors Landen Jenson and Bryce Knox as well as an RBI double from Evans that scored two runs.
  • After a scoreless fourth inning, the Cougars plated five runs on just four hits in the fifth inning. Senior Warrick Wilmot hit a two-run home run in the inning, and Evans recorded his second RBI of the game with a single through the right side.
  • The sixth inning saw CSU continue its offensive onslaught with six runs on six hits, including an RBI single from Berry and back-to-back RBI doubles from junior Jax Yoxtheimer and sophomore Luker Miller.
  • After allowing a hit in the first inning, sophomore right-hander Sawyer Wilson (2-1) gave up just one hit across the next six innings to collect his second straight win.
  • Wilson surrendered just two hits with a career-high six strikeouts in his first complete game as a Cougar.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
  • Wilmot provided an early spark in the first inning, hitting a two-out grand slam over the center field wall to give Columbus State a 4-0 lead it never relinquished.
  • Senior Jackson Chizek moved the CSU lead to 5-0 with an RBI single in the third, and a two-run sixth inning moved the advantage to 7-0.
  • Yoxtheimer led off the seventh inning with a solo home run to left center for his first collegiate long ball.
  • Ohio Dominican broke through for its only run of the day in the eighth inning of play.
  • Senior right-hander Connor Folds (2-2) was dominant in his fifth start of the season, collecting a career-high nine strikeouts across seven innings on the mound, giving up just three hits.
  • Sophomore right-hander Bailey Thorne pitched a scoreless ninth inning out of the bullpen in his sixth appearance of the year.
NOTES
  • Columbus State has now scored at least one run in 11 of the team's 14 games to open the 2026 season.
  • In game one, Berry was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, four RBI, and two runs scored.
  • Evans finished the two games 5-for-7 with a double, two RBI, two runs, and two walks, reaching base in seven of nine plate appearances.
  • Chizek was 5-for-8 at the plate across the two games with five runs scored and two RBI, while Wilmost finished with three hits in the doubleheader, belting his second and third home runs of the year to register seven total RBI and three runs scored.
  • Yoxtheimer had three hits on the day, including two doubles and a home run, to go along with three RBI, two runs scored, and his 18th stolen base of the year.

The Cougars and Panthers concluded the three-game series tomorrow afternoon with a single game at Noon inside Burger King Stadium.
