No. 6 Men's Tennis Handles No. 34 Nebraska-Kearney for Eighth Win in a Row

COLUMBUS, GA. – The 6th-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team moved its win streak to eight games in a row with a 7-0 triumph over No. 34 University of Nebraska at Kearney on Friday afternoon at the John W. Walden Tennis Center

With the win, Columbus State improves to 8-0 overall to start the season, while the Lopers fall to 10-3 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the match with two wins in doubles play.
  • The No. 1 duo of seniors Andrea Sandrone and Elias Peter won 7-6 over the nation's 29th-ranked doubles tandem of Andy Brisdon and Ivan Melnik, while senior Benedek Szombathelyi paired up with sophomore Hugo Didier for a 6-3 win in the No. 3 doubles contest.
  • Columbus State won all six singles flights, beginning with a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 1 by (37) senior Thomas Cardona over (40) Melnik.
  • (44) Didier followed with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win in a battle with (52) Brisdon, while reigning PBC Player of the Week Samer Al Tori won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3.
  • Szombathelyi registered a 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 decision at No. 4, Peter was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 5, and (47) Sandrone tallied a point with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 6 for CSU.

Columbus State travels to Augusta, Ga., next Friday for the team's first Peach Belt Conference match of the season against Augusta University at 2:00 p.m.
